White shirts are wardrobe staples so, I’m pretty sure you own a few yourselves. But unlike other clothing items, they easily get stained and may be more difficult to care for and maintain.
I wear a lot of white shirts and these simple tips have given them a much longer life span.
1. AVOIDING NECK MAKEUP
Applying makeup on your neck when you wear a white shirt is a huge mistake. There’s really nothing like ‘being careful enough’. It’ll by all means rub off on your shirt collar. Instead, I use a simple hack to ensure that I have an all round even complexion. Here goes; apply your face powder to your chin and worry no more.
2. KEEP YOUR PERFUME OFF
One of the easiest ways get your shirt stained is by spraying perfume directly on it. Especially, oil based perfume. If you happen to use one, I advice you put it on before you wear your shirt. Or better still, spray it a few inches away from your shirt.
3. WASH YOUR SHIRT AFTER EVERY WEAR
This will prevent stains from getting permanent stuck on your shirts. So, unless there are absolutely no stains on the neckline of your shirt at all. Please wash it.
4. AVOID BLEACH AT ALL COST
Bleach easily weakens threads and fabrics. So, even though it’s tempting to just pour in bleach and have the job done, think about how damaging it is to your shirts. Also, lemon or lime juice are a great alternative to bleach. You just have soak your shirts overnight.
5. KNOW THE COMPOSITION OF YOUR SHIRT
Knowing what fabric your shirts are made of greatly inform you on washing methods, care and even how to iron them. This information can be found on the label.
6. PAY ATTENTION TO HOW YOU STORE YOUR WHITE SHIRTS
Button down shirts should be kept on hangers right after their washed to maintain them. It is also advisable to keep them in clothes covers especially if you live in a dusty neighbourhood.
I hope you find these tips useful. Do you own any white button down shirts, how do you care for them?
Kindly share with me.
