Hand up if this is you;
- You own a lot of things but mostly have nothing to wear.
- You have great items in your wardrobe but for some reason, you don’t want to wear any of it.
- You’re one of those people that say, ‘I can’t afford my taste in clothes right now’. Meaning you know what you want and what will suit you but you can’t afford it right now.
Can you relate to any of those, Yes? Great, means I’m talking to the right person. And guess what, You are not alone in this dilemma. Most women encounter this at some stage in their life.
The bad news is, you will remain at this stage for a looong time if you do not do anything about it.
The good news is, the change you need to redeem yourself is a MIND SHIFT. Yup, at least that’s the first and most important place to start.
You see the moment you begin to look at your wardrobe differently, you’ll know what to spend money on and what to leave on the counter.
So, here’s what you need to do. Consider your wardrobe to be a HIGH PROFILED PARTY and your individual items are the invited guests. Ideally, only those who fit into a certain criteria and are invited, make it to such parties.
I’ll break it down. If you don’t love a particular item very much it won’t make it to this high profiled party, if it isn’t in line with your personal style, it’s not invited, if you can’t come up with more than 3 ways to wear it, don’t buy it…
You see where I’m going with this? If the item or clothing or accessory doesn’t fit any of these criteria, it’s not meant for you. You should value your wellbeing enough to make ‘tough’ wardrobe decisions.
- No more unnecessary impulse buying.
- No more I’ll lose weight so I can wear this.
- No more I’ll keep this for when it comes in handy. No.
When you practice this mind shift, you’ll realize that your have fewer ‘I have nothing to wear days. Almost everything in your wardrobe will be in sync with your personal style so it’ll be easier to dress up or pick out outfits. Finally, you’ll stop wasting money on items you use once and forget about. And rather save and invest in items that you can wear for yes.
Right there, the 3 dilemmas I mentioned at the beginning have been dealt with. I encourage you to consistently practice this mindset anytime you want to buy any item and you’ll be amazed at how much things will change with regards to your wardrobe.
‘But what if I’m already caught up in this cycle? What if I already have a bunch of clothes that made it to the party without the criteria check?’
I’ll tackle that next week right here !
